Rabat: don’t skip it!!!

The Hassan Tower

Rabat is the capital of Morocco. Everyone I met told me: skip Rabat, it’s just a big city , nothing special… etc etc. I am SO glad (almost) never listen to negative advice, to me it truly is the golden rule of traveling. I think I mentioned it before, but by listening to other people’s negative opinions about places you might miss out on the most amazing spots. Everyone has different opinions, and even though they didn’t love it you still might! 🙂 However, positive advice and tips I always welcome warmly.

I told you I was tiny, haha!

Rabat is a lot more chill than Marrakech, as it is much less touristic (less scams, salesmen etc). It is therefore perfect for shopping, we found the same items at much lower prices and much friendlier salesmen to bargain with. It is also a coastal city, meaning you can go the beach and go for a swim, which is pleasant in 30+ degrees Celsius! Personally, I didn’t really feel comfortable here to swim in my bikini. I wore boys’ swim shorts over my regular bikini, and I was still one of the least, if not the least, covered people at the beach. Well, the least covered woman on the beach. Men and children wear European bathing suits: swim shorts and bikini’s/swimsuits. Of course, that is totally up to you, I just wanted to share my experience. In other places in Morocco I felt more comfortable: such as in Chefchaouen and in Taghazout.

It also has a small blue/white part, kind of like Chefchaouen. This part is called the Kasbah of the Oudayas, and it is really nice to walk around here.

Kasbah of the Oudayas

You can spend quite some time in Rabat: shopping, walking around, going to the beach, eating delicious food, visiting the Hassan Tower, the Royal Palace and the Kasbah of the Oudayas.
