Morroco’s west coast: Essaouira, Casablanca & Taghazout

Essaouira is not too far from Marrakech. Only a three to four hour bus ride. It is a beautiful coastal city, which was one of the filming grounds for Game of Thrones. There is not necessarily much to do, but it is a great place for a short stay. You can walk around the beautiful white city and along the coast. It has beautiful city walls.

It is also a great place for shopping. I bought a beautiful purse, dress and plates and cups with Moroccan prints.

In our djellaba.
The largest mosque of Morocco, the Hassan II-mosque. (Located in Casablanca)
It also provides great picture spots
We stayed in a gorgeous airbnb in Casablanca, in the neighbourhood Ain Diab. It was very close to the beach, but very far from the centre.

Personally I probably would not visit Casablanca again, the beaches were very dirty and there is very little “authentic Morocco” in my opinion. The mosque was very gorgeous though, so in my opinion it was worth seeing the mosque. So my recommendation would be a short stay.

Taghazout, the surf town of Morocco.
It is a little bit a “hipster” town, many cute restaurants, healthy food options. Many surf and yoga places. It is a very small town, but a great place to chill and hang out and surf of course!

Finally, as my last item on my three-week holiday to Morocco, I would like to dedicate some pictures to the Moroccan food

A green smoothiebowl, with dates, walnuts and pineapple. (Taghazout)
Chicken tajine on the left with olives and potato. On the right vegetable couches with pumpkin and courgette and other roasted vegetables.
Pastilla. A traditional puff pastry, filled with warm sweet chicken. Covered in cinnamon and sugar. Sounds weird, but it’s delicious. Absolutely must-try!
Morrocan salad and omelet for lunch.
