As a full day activity in Chefchaouen we decided we wanted to go to the nearby waterfall. We had heard stories about the bluest water and beautiful nature. We went to the taxi stand, which was not so easily found, and then waited our turn for a taxi.
After a fifteen-to-twenty minute drive, we arrived at the start of the hike. The waterfall is a two hour hike, but there are many nice swimming spots on the hike, if you don’t want to walk that far. At the beginning, it was crowded with locals, but the further we walked the more quiet it became.

I do advise you to bring either flip-flops or water-shoes, because that makes the swimming more comfortable as the bottom is covered in tiny stones. Also bring enough snacks and water, although there are small shops along the way where you can buy a cold drink.

When we went, it was midsummer (August), so the waterfall was not super impressive as it was dry season. But the water was still really nice, and you can jump from some rocks on the sides. The water is super fresh and cold, as it is straight from the mountains. By the time we arrived to the waterfall (3pm), the sun had also already moved behind the mountains. So another tip would be to start the hike early in the morning, if you want to swim in the sun. The water will also look more blue and clear in the sunlight!

The hike itself is truly an adventure, even if you don’t make it to the waterfall. You are surrounded by mountains, the river and beautiful nature. We saw lizards and got a nice tan and a free workout.
